Shifting Gears in Sustainability: From Compliance to Value Creation

A Deep Dive into Carbon Emissions

Addressing climate change is a core part of our sustainability work. A major milestone in 2025 was the completion of our first comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions calculation covering Scope 1–3 emissions, as well as the definition of an emissions reduction roadmap for the coming years.

Our level of ambition in climate work is high. We are targeting a 42% reduction in emissions from our own operations (Scope 1–2) by 2030. In addition, our ambitious goal is to achieve net-zero emissions across our entire value chain (Scope 1–3) by 2045. These targets are well aligned with and supportive of our customers’ climate ambitions.

In line with our emissions reduction roadmap, our most significant actions focus on reducing emissions in our value chain—particularly by engaging suppliers and increasing the use of lower-emission alternative materials in our products. Collaboration with logistics partners also plays a key role. In our own operations, emissions are already low due to the use of carbon-free energy, and our efforts are focused on electrifying our vehicle fleet and replacing remaining fossil energy sources with zero-emission alternatives across all locations.

The demand for increasingly accurate emissions data is growing, both within our own operations and among our customers. Alongside organisational-level emissions accounting, we have developed product-level emissions calculations. This enables us not only to further reduce the carbon footprint of our solutions, but also to respond to our customers’ growing needs for emissions-related data. Through this work, we also want to actively encourage our customers to compare solutions not only based on price, but increasingly also from an emissions perspective.

Systematic sustainability management through a dedicated program

In addition to our climate targets, we have defined a broader sustainability program that brings together environmental, social and governance targets, actions and metrics. Our sustainability program, with targets extending to 2030, builds on K.Hartwall’s long-standing work in product quality, employee health and safety, and resource-efficient production processes.

Alongside a strong climate agenda, the program focuses on an uncompromising commitment to people and safety, as well as driving long-term customer value through sustainability. We work systematically to improve occupational safety, with a long-term goal of zero accidents. Our solutions play a role in addressing our customers’ sustainability challenges, and through the program we continue to develop these solutions further.

The need for high-quality, comparable sustainability information is increasing. As part of our sustainability program, we aim to enhance transparency around our sustainability impacts and progress. We are therefore preparing to publish our first comprehensive sustainability report in line with the EU’s VSME reporting framework, covering our sustainability performance and emissions data.

Our sustainability program is closely linked to our business strategy, and the actions defined within it are reflected in concrete measures across our operations. Progress towards the program’s targets is monitored regularly by the company’s top management.
